Big disappointment, steer clear

We were excited for this motel given its proximity to the park entrance, but it disappointed us in so many ways. It’s not often I give out a one star rating. The room: The carpet in the room was a bad decision by ownership - it looked and felt disgusting, likely from having so many trail shoes bringing in dirt. The shower stall was incredibly small, and the small size was exacerbated by the motel using a full size liner/curtain for a stall; it bunched up and hung all over the place in the shower. You couldn’t shower without bumping into things. Also the linter was brown with mildew. The room had no beside lamps, only lights that were directly above the bed and shined in your eyes if you were laying in bed. Amenities: The room came only with three flat pillows, and when we asked the front desk for more, they said they had none. The comforter was ratty and old and felt gross to touch. The towels were rough and old. Customer service: While check in came without a smile, it was at least capable. In the morning we asked if they had an iron, and the agent’s look was of confusion; she first checked a yellow note pad full of notes. Ultimately a more capable agent overheard the issue and found us one. Positives: proximity to the park and the associated restaurant (our favorite place we ate around Glacier)

This was an older hotel. It felt dirty. The sheets were the worst I have ever seen. There was a mattress cover on our king bed that would not have fit a twin bed. When I picked the blanket off of the bed, some type of pill fell out. Linens were very thin and small. Comforter was disgusting. I knew we would have no AC but I was hot at night in August. We had no shampoo or soap when we arrived. We received one small round piece of soap when I asked. Front staff was nice when I asked for clean linens and they gave us enough for a couple of days. We declined room service. When I gave the room service staff my dirty towels, they were kind and spoke English. They had an outdoor sitting area that was very nice. The restaurant was good but expensive (like everything in GNP). Pies were excellent. Would prefer to stay in a different hotel but would return if it was only thing available.

Close to West Glacier Entrance

This isn’t really a resort, it’s more like a motel. The rooms were average and the beds were comfy. The room was a bit cramped for a family of four and the shower was small. The bathroom smelled like wood and sand paper. The location is great—right next to the west entrance of Glacier National Park. It is also right next to an Amtrak station, so the trains get noisy. Even though we stayed in the top row of cabins (1-25) we still heard the trains from there. It has good wifi, but there is no other cell service in the area. One thing I didn’t like was the headboard on the bed. It was floating, probably there for decoration, but I hit my head on it a few times when I layed down. There is a basketball court for the kids to play and there are blackout curtains. Overall, it’s a 4/5 from me. It’s like any average motel in the area.

Ok- but small improvements could have made it more pleasant

TLDR: The bare minimum for a clean stay was achieved, however 'low hanging' fruit didnt seem to be a priority and could have enhanced the stay. I understand paying a premium for convenience to the park and that hotels get alot of wear/tear, however I next time I think we will try elsewhere. We were able to get much more value for same price points at other hotels at similar distance to Glacier National Park. The hotel room was clean enough however very small esp for family of four adults. The sink drain was significantly plugged upon arrival late in day, but fixed next day, which was good, but seems that should have been observed before check-in. There were coffee grinds in the coffee maker upon arrival - yuk! The bathroom area has one small towel bar next to shower and the door hook was missing/broken. There was no towel bar at sink area so piles of towels sit there damp. Unfortunately it was quite rainy during our stay and there were no inside chairs (because the rooms are too small- there are chairs outside) or hooks to dry out clothes and coats in the main room and in bathroom area. So we ended up hanging wet stuff on things that probably shouldn't have gotten wet(cabinets, electronics etc) which probably doesnt help keep the room tidy over the long run. The adjoining restaurant was great and we ate their several times. If the establishment could just finalize a few finishing touches at the hotel, or prioritize it as much as the restaurant, it probably would be a fine place to stay. I debated of 'average' vs 'poor' rating and went with average- because it was generally clean - i've stayed in worse for sure. We tried to like the stay- we really did- but we wont be coming back to the motel next time we come to Glaicer.

I’ve stayed here 3 times this year and absolutely love the place. I met the owner early in the season and he’s engaging and interested in his guests’ opinions. Each room I’ve had has been incredibly clean and comfortable. I love the pines and view from the upper row of rooms. Sitting outside the room in the morning and evening is a relaxing time. I can only imagine a “negative Nelly” finding fault with this place! His wife makes the best soup snd homemade pies at the restaurant - trust me as I’ve been coming to the area for 18 years.
