Beautiful, well-preserved hotel overlooking the town of Waterton. Rooms were small, but comfortable. Food in the dining room was magnificent. Because it was built in the early 1900's, there is only one manually-operated elevator for the whole building, but when we were there it was never a problem to call the bell staff for a lift to the 4th floor. Beware - because the hotel sits on a bluff overlooking the lake and town, it is VERY WINDY!!

This hotel should be on everyone's bucket list! Kind of pricey, but a great experience. Built in the 1920's, it's a strikingly beautiful building from the outside and amazing on the inside with a big picture window looking out on Upper Waterton Lakes and the mountains.

The Prince of Wales offers a unique experience and stunning beauty!!!

The Prince of Wales Hotel is one of the nicest and historic hotels that we've ever stayed in. It's located in the Canada portion of Glacier National Park and It looks like a castle that sits on top of a hill overlooking the most beautiful lake and valley. It's very near the wonderful town called Waterton. We stayed in a beautiful room with fans to keep us cool and the view was spectacular. The lobby is impressive and the staff was friendly, informative, and provided wonderful service. Loved the touches of plaid throughout the hotel. You can easily walk to town and enjoy all they have to offer seeing beautiful waterfalls and enjoying great hiking. I would highly recommend staying at The Prince of Wales. Great, great, service!

This was our 35th anniversary celebration trip. We loved the hotel. The view is unparrelled. The hotel is very old. There’s one small elevator and an operator has to take you up and down. As long as you recognize this is not a modern hotel with all the amenities, and appreciate it for what it is, you’ll have a wonderful time. Food was very good. The young staff are mostly college students and they are very sweet and hardworking.

Poor Quality for the Price You Pay - Better Hotels in Town

This hotel did not live up to its hype or its nightly rate. It's location on the hill is beautiful. There are other hotels to stay at in town and I would strongly recommend you look there before booking here. This hotel is very expensive (~US $500/night). For that, one would expect higher quality. The one very good thing about this hotel is the staff. They were very friendly and tried hard to fix the many issues that we had. When we first walked into our room, there was a window in the bathroom, but NO curtain. How can you have a window in the bathroom and NO curtain?? The glass is frosted. But you can still see at night with the light on in the bathroom. The front desk seemed surprised that I would be uncomfortable with no curtain, and made it seem like no one else had ever expressed concern. However, the maintenance guy came right up and hung a towel over it. He was wonderful! Then I went to use one of the glasses in the room. They were both dirty! The front desk was very responsive in bringing up clean ones. (But they should not have been dirty in the first place.) When I went to take a shower that night, I ran the water for 8-10 mins. No hot water! I called down to the front desk and was advised that "it can take a while to get hot." A few minutes later, I called down again. This time they sent up the maintenance guy (same great guy from New Zealand). After tinkering in the bathroom for a few mins, he discovered that the hot water and cold water pipes were switched. So, to get hot water, we just needed to turn it onto the cold side. I asked him how could no one have known this was an issue? Was I the first person to stay in that room? Of course, he couldn't answer that. The rooms are not air conditioned, which is fine. We knew that. They do provide you a box fan. However, the box fan that was in our room was so loud that it sounded like a jet rattling through the room. We like to sleep with a fan and do not normally mind the sound. But even with ear plugs in, this fan was very loud & kept us awake. The next day, when we looked at it, we could see that 4 of the 5 blades were broken, which would explain the loud noise and the little air flow. Once again, we asked at the front desk for a better fan. They did find one that was better, but not by much. It provided more breeze and wasn't noisy, but it's handle was broken. This is not a budget hotel. One would not expect a subpar fan. The chairs in the room were old and in disrepair as well. For $US 500/night, I don't think it is too much to ask to have 1) clean everything, including glasses; 2) hot water come out of the hot side; 3) proper curtain in the bathroom; 4) a new (or fairly new) box fan;; 5) updated, while period appropriate, furniture. When we checked out, I expressed my concerns to the front desk agent. She offered to remove $50/night from our room fee. However, once I got home and saw the receipt, I see that she only credited us with $50, not $50/night. Not sure if that was a mistake or intentional, but it was quite disappointing.
