Smells Like Cigarettes

Our visit to Death Valley NP was a last minute decision, so the park’s hotels were full, and at the time we didn’t know about Beatty, so we booked here. I’ll start with the good part of this hotel. It’s not far from the park. The rooms are clean and reasonably priced. It has a restaurant, a small convenience store, and a laundry room. The hotel is “kitschy” in a fun sense…lots of statues, a pond, a wedding chapel, a giant pig in front, ducks and geese wandering around. It’s definitely a memorable hotel. That said, non-smokers beware!!! When we booked this hotel, we knew it was a casino, but being from out of state, we didn’t know that Nevada allows smoking in casinos (seriously, who allows indoor smoking anymore????!!!!) Anyway, the entrance of this hotel is the casino part, and walking into it is like putting your face in an ashtray. There’s even a cigarette machine by the front desk. The restaurant shares the lobby area with the casino, so expect the smell of cigarettes while you dine. We arrived late, tired, and hungry, and discovered this restaurant was the only one for miles, so we had to eat there. The food was actually good, but the smell of cigarettes was awful. Miraculously, our hotel room did not smell like cigarettes, which we were incredibly grateful for. We got a good night’s rest, and went out a side door in the morning to avoid going through the smoky lobby again.

Upon check in they gave me an upgraded suite for free because there was a delay in room availability. The price for these rooms does not come close to the value you receive. You get a lot more. We got two good nights of sleep here.

The rooms were comfy and clean, there is a decent restaurant within, as well as a surprisingly well stocked shop. There is a cool little bar as well. The staff is friendly and there are ice machines. The slots paid out way better than my experience in Vegas. I played a while on my initial slot money until I won over a thousand bucks on the wheel machine near the entrance. I would certainly recommend this place even if I hadn't won money while playing there.

Affordable Inn with interesting grounds and reasonable cafe/gas

Published Date: Apr, 7, 2024 Travel Date: Apr, 1, 2024 Rating: 4 We chose Longstreet Inn as a base for exploring Death Valley National Park. It is about a 30-40 minutes drive outside of the park but it was a reasonable tradeoff as the cost for accommodations/food/gas was lot lower than staying within the park. The room was not fancy but was clean and adequate. The AC and shower worked great but the bathroom fan was a bit noisy. Otherwise, the grounds were beautiful with a small lake with lakeside gazebo, sculptures, a chapel, swimming pool(not heated when we were there) and jacuzzi. There were even some farm animals, and huge statues of a dairy cow and a pig! The petrol price was about half of that in the national park. The prices at the on-site mart and restaurant were very reasonable, and they have Taco Tuesdays when you can get 3 tacos with rice and beans for less than $10! Be sure to visit Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge near the resort as the park has crystal clear pools where you can see pup fishes which are found only in the Death Valley areas.

Bathroom was pretty outdated, and if your average height, you will be ducking the shower head! Clean and comfortable. No housekeeping. The band aid taped to the back of the main door was a bit odd (maybe previous guest put it there and it wasn't noticed upon cleaning?) Small patio facing west over looking the pond. The Inn's grounds were very cute. The restaurant on site was good with ample portions. On site convenience store was nice to stock up on your hiking supplies. The gas pumps outside will be the cheapest gas you'll find in that area! Nice pool and large hot tub tho the jets were not working properly. Go pet the goat, he (she?) is super friendly! We didn't gamble in the small casino. Overall a fine stay and would stay again due to the convenience of Death Valley.
